Monday, Feb. 23rd ~
I did not go to Tibbetts today because my nephew passed away. Miss you Daniel!
Monday March 2nd ~
Being that I missed on Monday what I did today was watch what Nicole did and see what we were
suppose to do with our students. I learned a lot and can not wait for the opportunity to work with the students that I get
from splitting up the two groups that are already formed. We will see what happens next week, doing the poetry circle!
Monday March 9th ~
I got my own group today and absolutely loved working with everyone of them. They were willing to
do everything that we had to do and had so much fun doing it. This is the day that we worked on the poetry circle, which was
a little difficult for me because we had just learned how to do it. I had brought cookies to share with my group so our
poem was about cookies. We split up into 4 groups with in our group. We all did each of our parts. We ran out of time
so we did not get to write our poems that was assigned for homework. Lets see how they turn out next week.
Monday March 16 ~
We all started out sharing our poems and they all worked very hard and were eager to share. After
we shared we went right into an autobiography poem and they worked so hard on making their poems the way that they wanted
them to be. I had brought an outline of how the poems might look but told them they could add what they wanted to it
because it was about them. We then shared our poems and that was it. The only thing that I would note to myslef is to have
a little thing to do even if it is just for 3 minutes.
Monday March 23~
SPRING BREAK! NO CLASS!
Monday March 30~
I could tell today that it was the day we ALL got back from spring break. I know that it is
hard for me to get back into the groove of school after being off for a week, so I can only imagine 7th graders. It was a
day were we talked a lot rather then writing a bunch. We did accomplish writing a poem about our families and where we come
from. But talking today was good. We got to know eachother a little more and talked a lot about different types of poetry.
This was a good day for me to see for future refrences on the day after spring break.
Monday
April 6th~
A day all about concrete poems, a much loved day, because the poetry was actually fun to them. I had one student write
three or four different concrete poems because she loved them so much! I loved them too! I thought it was an awesome way to
write a poem and a great tribute to different things in this world. I wrote a poem about my boyfriend which I am still working
on to give to him when I am finished with it. Reflecting on this type of poetry… it is so much more fun for students
because they are not writing in the regular left to right way that we all write when we write papers. They were able to write
in whatever different way they want to! A great day of poetry.
Monday April 13th~
Oh how these students break my heart. (I told them that about 20 times today) They are so young yet hate life so much.
They are so lost with no hope for the future. We talked a lot this session about life, about the things that they must quit
to make life better then we wrote it down. We wrote a poem about the future and how the future was going to be and that broke
my heart as well. I will worry about them for the rest of my life wondering where they are and what their life is like.
April 19, 2009
Today was a day of much accomplishment! We did the poems that go with
the pictures and switch around the group. My students loved this! This is an idea that I will most definitely use for ever
while I am in the classroom. We came up with some beautiful poems that will be added to my web page. This was a day that really
made me see why I wanted to be a teacher, maybe even a middle school teacher. I have fallen in love with the older kids as
well now. I have always said that I will never want to teach anything over 4th or 5th grade; this practicum
work has made me reexamine that and who knows I may become a middle school teacher someday J. I am really going to miss my students being that next Monday is the
last day that we will be with them. They have impacted my life in many ways I hope I did the same
April 27th-
It
was our very last day with our students at tibbets and to be completely honest it was sad. Those students have really made
me cherish teaching in a way that I had never thought about cherishing it. they have shown me the true reason for being a
teacher, Adam and Ty have shown me how important it is to get to know each student in their own unique way: their struggles
, their life, their hurts, their fears, their self. Tyler, we had something in common. His brother is special needs and my
nephew was special needs. Tanisha lost a loved one early in her years. I may have been 23 but I could sure relate to her.
Lamerica has no confidence in herself. man how I can relate. Incredible people that I met, that I hope that I made an impact
on their lives, a difference, a glimpse of hope.
Today we had a rootbeer float party as a class (7th grade) and enjoyed
the time that we had with each other. All the students loved it as well as Rodrick, Nicole, and myself.
